Frequently asked questions about family necklaces
What is a family necklace?
A family necklace carries several engraved discs on one chain, usually one larger disc and several small ones. Each disc stands for one person and is engraved with their name, initial or a date. That way, the whole family hangs together on one chain.
How many discs can I combine?
That depends on the design. On our combination family necklace, one large disc can be combined with up to four small ones. You'll find the exact options on the respective product page.
What do people engrave on a family necklace?
Most commonly the children's first names, often with their date of birth on the back. Initials, a symbol or a combination of both are also possible. On many designs, each disc can be engraved individually on the front and back.
Can I add a disc later on?
Yes, that's possible afterwards too. When a child or grandchild joins the family, simply order another engraved disc. We'll send it to you loose and you can then thread it onto the chain yourself. If you have any questions, just send us a quick email.
Can I add birthstones?
Yes. For this, there's the add-on birthstone charm at €12.00 each – for example, one stone per child. We'll attach it to the piece of jewellery included in the same order. The stone is a glass stone in twelve colours, one for each birth month.
Which chain length should I choose?
Most of our necklaces are adjustable to several lengths, typically 40, 45 and 50 centimetres. Some designs have different length settings. The length of each piece is given in the measurements on its product page.
What material are the family necklaces made of?
Depending on the design, stainless steel in silver tone, 18k gold-plated or rose gold-plated, and on some pieces 925 sterling silver. Stainless steel is rust-free, skin-friendly, practically tarnish-free and won't discolour your skin.
Does a family necklace also make a good gift for Grandma?
Yes, that's one of the most common occasions. In that case, the grandchildren's names are engraved instead of her own children's. A disc or birthstone can be added for each additional grandchild.
Is the engraving included in the price?
On most designs, one-sided engraving is included in the price. Double-sided engraving or additional discs are options at an extra charge, which you'll see directly when selecting the product.
Can I have a piece of jewellery engraved at a later date?
Yes, that's possible – for example, an engraving on the back. To do this, you send the piece back to us. Please drop us a quick email beforehand so that we can agree on the process with you and tell you where to send it.
